Who made any New Years resolutions this year? I thought that was a lot of hands. I think most of the resolutions are centred around losing weight, getting fit or stopping smoking, right?
By the end of March, 80% of people in the UK break their resolutions, which is more than double the number that broke within the first month. We are so good at giving up that there is an official day dedicated to our downfall. 17th January is Ditch New Year's Resolutions Day.
Who is to blame for our lack of dedication and will?
Truthfully?
YOU!
You are the biggest saboteur of all your best laid out plans.
Think about it for a second.
Who made you miss the gym this morning?
Umm…
YOU!
Someone made you pour that glass of wine after a crazy day at work.
Umm…
YOU!
We all know they are the best biscuits, so the hand went around in the biscuit tin trying to find the last one.
YOU!
YOU!
YOU!
The main reason we turn into our own worst enemy in times of weakness is that we are constantly battling with a little creature inside our heads.
Everyone has one. That voice tells you. You will fail if you are not good enough, you can't do it, and you're not worth it. You will sabotage your goals until you learn to control your gremlin, to take charge of it, and to basically tell it to shut up.
We at The Art of Healthy Living believe in the phrase "everything in moderation" and are advocates of leading a healthy, but realistic and sustainable lifestyle. I would like to share our tips with you so that you can do the same.
Shame it!
Take some time to imagine what your gremlin looks like, what kind of personality it has, and give it a name.
One thing at a time.
If you have a gremlin, check it. It is time to think about your goals in more detail.
A reward.
We have an in built program to feel worth, success and purpose as humans, so we like to give a dog a biscuit for sitting, or a child a sticker for something.
And finally...
You should stop being so hard on yourself.
We need to worry less about the resolutions and more about creating positive visions and celebrating our individuality, so grab your gremlin and show it who is boss!
